Philippe vs BelgianBear was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1957.
Living and working in Belgium, Philippe has been exhibiting his decaled and sensual recognizing work in Belgium, France, Germany and the USA.
Philippe influences come from his legendary playful humor, translated on canvas with incredible colored flowers, monumental teddy bears, and typical 70's ambiances.
His paintings are drawn directly into the material and color; it deals mostly with brushes, hands, fingers or other objects passing through his hands and with no prior sketching.
His graphic universe is like a big cheerful and vibrant fair.
1982 - 1991 : The discovery years.
At this time, I was working on different techniques and forms: oils watercolors, charcoal, live models, mine lead, leakage points, angles and shadows and I was mostly focusing on water colors and trying to put the colors of the Belgian climate in my paintings.
1994 - 2001 : The academicals years.
Philippe, works at the Academy of Boistfort (Belgium). His teacher was Stephan, a young Belgian artist known for his moving painting issue of marriage between painting and video. (http://www.stephan-balleux.com/>
I spend my favorite's years at the academy of Boistfort in Brussels, with Stephane Balleux. We were working hard but always in a good mood and complicity... Funny years and creativity years.
5 years in the U.S. (Texas and Florida) gave me the taste to paint exotically flowers and... bears.
Autodidact in het begin,
De periode tussen 1982 en 1991 zijn voor mij de jaren van ontdekking en onderzoek.
Mijn voorkeur ging uit naar de aquareltechniek en mijn werk ademt een typisch Belgisch klimaat : "De Belgische kust" en "Strandcabines"
In 1991 maak ik kennis met Elsa Zorkow (Kunstschilder, Berlijn 1938), die gedurende bijna 3 jaar mijn prive leermeester wordt. (http://www.shopart.com/zorkow/)
"Vanaf de eerste les, barst het los !"
Ik voelde mij wat gevangen tussen mijn kleine formaten en trieste kleuren van onze "Lage Landen". "Vanaf de eerste les, heeft Elsa mij werkelijk verlost uit dat keurslijf van zondagsschilder".
"Ik ontdekte de schilderkunst in zijn ware gedaante".
Sedert 1998, werk ik aan de Academie van Bosvoorde (Belgie) onder leiding van Stephane Balleux, jong Belgisch artiest bekend voor zijn "MOVING ART" ontsproten uit de vereniging tussen verf, choreografie en video. (www.stephan-balleux.com)

Autodidacte a ses debuts, 1982 a 1991, seront pour lui les annees de decouvertes.
Il se penchera alors surtout sur l'apprentissage des formes et techniques : huiles, aquarelles, fusain, modeles vivants, mine de plomb, points de fuites, angles et ombres...
Son sujet de predilection est alors principalement axe sur les techniques de l'aquarelle empreint a un climat bien de chez nous : "La Cote Belge" et ses "Cabines de Plage".
A cette epoque, Philippe participe essentiellement a des expositions locales :
Chateau Jourdain (Kraainem), Atelier Malou (Woluwe), Chateau d'Assesse (Namur), Arts Meets Management (Bruxelles)...
C'est en 1991 que Philippe va faire la rencontre d'Elsa Zorkow (Artiste peintre, Berlin 1938) et qui deviendra pendant pres de 3 annees son professeur particulier. Des le premier cours, c'est l'explosion !
"A cette epoque j'etais un peu coince par mes petits formats et les couleurs tristes de notre "Plat Pays". Et des le premier cours, Elsa m'a vraiment sortit de mon petit costume etrique d'artiste du dimanche pour me faire decouvrir la peinture dans tout ses etats !"
Aujourd'hui et ce depuis 1998, Philippe, travaille l'Academie de Boistfort (Belgique).
Il a comme professeur Stephane Balleux, jeune artiste Belge connu pour sa "peinture en mouvement" issue du mariage entre peinture et video.
"5 annees passees aux Etat-Unis (Texas et Floride) m'ont donnee le gout des fleurs et de la couleur". Expositions a Dallas, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale et Francfort.
1982 / 1996: Castle Kasteel Jourdain (Kraainem), Atelier Malou (Woluwe), Castle Assesse (Namur / Namen), Arts Meets Management (Brussels).
1996 / 2001: Dallas, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Frankfurt.
2003 / 2009: Ariane II place Stephanieplaats (Brussels, Belgium), Bleu de toi (Bonnieux, France), Cosy (Brussels), La Cité (Paris, France), Tour & Taxi (Brussels Lions Club Munt Belgium), The Reys (Roussillon, France) Castle Kasteel Coloma (Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Belgium).
